    She was carried along by the crowd, wave after wave of a calm rush gently prodding her to her destination: the subway. The teenage girl was reluctant, rebelling, repulsing of her task.... yet she let the people carry her feeble body to the large, steaming locomotive. Her ticket was paid for and turned in for her, yet her presence inside the beast not available.
    It was time. She'd fought against it for so long, hours upon hours of arguments that she had carefully toiled to had come down to this. Her parents, her siblings, her uncles, her aunts. All had left her for dead. In what? In where? The city, a place of danger. A place of filth, of ashes, of war. And now she boarded the train to no where.

    The plush horse came back to the girl's residence alone, it's cuddly little spirit being left on the ground for strangers to step on, for there was no need for such childish things on this journey.

I was thinking of one of the War Worlds as I read it. Imo, the most saddest was the part about the plush horse.
